The Friends of the Mendon Public Library is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing our library. We are a group of volunteers who support the library through a membership drive and book sales. With your donations and profits from book sales we are able to enhance the libraries services by providing additional funding for programs, new materials, furniture, and supporting new collections.
The Friends have played an active role in the library since they were founded in 1988. Shirley Arena, Susan Bowers, Dorothe Cameron, Elaine Navias and Barbara Reifsteck formed the first Board of the Friends of the Mendon Library. Also instrumental in the early formation of the Friends were: Grizel Spence, Marion McCormick, Elisabeth Dietz and Cheryl Carboneau. Today the Friends have over 150 members, active in volunteering and supporting the library financially.
The Friends sponsor an annual membership drive. Benefits of a Friends Membership include; the invitation to attend Preview Day at all book sales and knowing you contribute to a valuable community resource. With a donation of $25 or more you are eligible to receive a free limited edition membership gift. Local artists that have donated their work include: Liz Sciortino, Matt DeTurck, Dick Flaherty and Dwight Petruchik. You may pick up your membership gift at the Mendon Library.
While the membership drive is usually held in May, memberships are taken throughout the year. Although memberships are taken all year, the memberships are valid May through May. The Friends hold an Annual Used Book Sale during the June Village Days in

. Not to brag, but we think we are one of the best organized book sales in the area. The book sale fills a large 20’ by 40’ tent on the front lawn of the library. Prices are low and bargains are plenty! New and used books, tapes, audio books, software, CDs, games and puzzles are sold at a bargain price. 100% of the items are donated by people in our community. We welcome donations during the hours the library is open. We especially need donations of cookbooks, coffee table books, new fiction and large print books. We do not accept Reader’s Digest Condensed Books, magazines, incomplete encyclopedias, textbooks, or books in bad or damaged condition. Volunteers are needed throughout the year to sort the books into different categories and work at the actual sale to make the sale successful.
Please join the Friends of the Mendon Library and help us further enrich our library and support many of the activities and resources that our library offers. We welcome all levels of support. You may support the Friends at the following levels on the web using your credit card. Please pick up your free membership gift at the library with support of over $25 or more. Hurry, each gift is a limited edition.
Donations under $10 are accepted by check, cash, at the library, or at the door of the book sale. If you wish to mail your donation and send it to the library with your donation.
