A library card allows you to do more than simply borrow books. A Monroe County Library System library card gives you access to over a million books, audio cassettes and CDs (including audio books), videotapes, CD ROMs and DVDs at 19 Member Libraries, the Central Library in the city of Rochester and 10 Rochester City Branch Libraries throughout Monroe County. You'll also be able to use dozens of online databases.
We issue two types of cards: the Monroe County Library Card, which can be used at any library in Monroe County, and the Mendon Library Card, which can only be used to take out material from the Mendon Library.
The Monroe County Library card is free to residents of Monroe County or patrons who own property in Monroe County. (Proof of ownership must be presented at time of application.) Budgetary constraints caused the Monroe County Library System to institute a yearly fee of $30 for out of county residents. This card is good in any Library in the Monroe County System. This card can used to be place holds or access databases online through the libraweb system.
The Mendon Library Card is free for residents living outside the county. Our school districtcovers several counties; we use the Mendon Library Card primarily for patrons living outside the county wishing to use Mendon Library materials, especially school projects and home-schoolers. It can only be used to check out materials owned by the Mendon Library. The hold privilege is not available with the Mendon Library Card. Out of county residents are encouraged to purchase a Monroe County Library System Card to have access to all library resources.
Proper identification must be shown at the time of application for a library card. Children must be five years old and have permission of their parent or guardian to obtain a card. Children must be able to print their full name to obtain a library card. I· If your card is lost or stolen, notify the library immediately; you are responsible for materials signed out on your card.. Likewise, notify the library of a change of address. A replacement card is available for a small fee. If you have questions, stop by the library or call 624-6067.
