Thank you for thinking of the Mendon Public Library. A donation to the library is a lasting tribute and is a gift the whole community can enjoy. The Library is grateful for gifts and contributions from the community. With these gifts and donations we are able to enrich our library’s collection. If you want to give, but are unsure of what the library needs, please contact: Laurie Guenther, Library Director.

The Library encourages monetary donations of any amount. We have several methods of donating financially to the library. Donations of material or equipment are also encouraged, but are subject to certain criteria. The library staff can not appraise the value of donation of materials or equipment. We can issue a letter acknowledging the donation; it is the donor’s decision to determine the value of the donation. The library does not have the staff resources to prepare an itemized list for you. If you require an itemized list, please prepare in advance and bring it to the library with your donation.
Friends of the Mendon Public Library accept financial donations and in turn provide support for enhanced programs and services over and above what our tax funding provides. The Friends have supported collections such as the local history collection and provided support for many library programs. Friends also take donations of used and new materials. Materials donated to the Friends are either donated to the library for use in the library collections or sold at the book sale.
The Mendon Library Board of Trustees is a tax exempt organization. Because the Board is a 501 (c) (3) public charity all gifts enjoy tax benefits. While the Library staff is not qualified to give tax advice, we recommend consultation with your accountant or professional tax advisor if you have any questions regarding tax implications of a potential donation. You can create a charitable legacy and reduce your estate taxes by making a provision for the Mendon Public Library Board of Trustees in your will or estate plan.
The Library is pleased to receive funds to acquire a book to celebrate an event such as a birthday. This will give the person the unique experience of being able to check out a library book with their name inside. Library staff will help you select an appropriate book considering the age and interests of the person. We will also put a commemorative plate in each item. Just complete our Donation Request form to celebrate a special event or honor a loved one. All items added to the library collection are subject to the Materials Selection/reconsideration policy.
A memorial book or collection of books in memory of your loved one is a lasting way to honor your memories. A book plate will be placed inside of each memorial gift. Several families and friends have used this service to provide a collection of materials which was especially meaningful to their loved one. Library staff will help you select appropriate materials to supplement the existing libraries collection. To make a donation in memory of a loved one please fill out our Mendon Library Memorial Gift Request form.
