We all depend on local public services at some time in our lives. Well-run services provided by local people for local people add real value to our community. Local fire and rescue, schools, roads, sewers and water – these are all services that we contribute to for our own benefit and for the benefit of our neighbors. The Mendon Library is one of the many value-added public services supported by your local tax dollars. Over 60% of Mendon residents including adults and children own a library card and have used it within the past two years.

We take pride in offering a family atmosphere and supplying residents of the community with much more than books. The library offers free access to the internet, free programs and access to a wide range of audio visual materials. We provide a place where all may gather, discuss, learn and enjoy. The Staff and Board of Trustees of the Mendon Library are proud of the services offered. We take seriously the job we do: being an essential contributor to the quality of life for the communities of Mendon. Take some time to review our mission statement and long range plan. Since we are a tax supported organization, every effort is made to give the tax payers the best value for their dollar demonstrates.

Our library is funded through a mixture of funding sources. The primary source of funding is Town of Mendon property taxes. Residents of the Town of Mendon support 85% of our budget with $23.46 per person per year (per- capita). According to the New Centuries Library Bill, the average per-capita local support in the state was $32 in 1998 dollars. Unlike public schools and local governments, the library does not receive significant funding from either state or federal sources. New York State aid to libraries has remained stagnant for nearly a decade. Only .9% of our local budget is supported by state funding.

If libraries are as important to you as they are to us, please write your legislators and continue to ask for support for our libraries. With this critical tax support this support we are able to provide staffing, new materials and programs for your enjoyment and education. Here is a list of elected officials supporting our library:
