We are pleased with the results of the referendum and want to thank the residents of the Town of Mendon for their overwhelming support of a new library building. This vote will qualify the Mendon Library for a significant share of Public Library Construction funding available to Monroe County Libraries this year.We expect official notification of the exact amount of the award, anticipated at approximately $500,000, in January.
The Library Project Steering Committee is committed to making our library a cornerstone of the community − something we can all be proud of.This significant vote is a milestone in our journey toward this goal. We remain committed to pursuing all possible sources of funding, and anticipate that the widespread community support demonstrated by this vote will contribute to a successful capital campaign.
The new library building is a historic effort for our community. We invite each of you to share the excitement and be an active part of this significant community project. Please attend our Project Steering Committee Meetings to learn how you can help. Meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Mendon Town Hall, and everybody is welcome to attend. Our next meeting will be October 14.
Updates and communications will be posted here and at the Town of Mendon website. Questions and ideas may continue to be directed to Ian McNabb, Town of Mendon Supervisor, or Laurie Guenther, Library Director.
Results of Special Town Election
1,191 Yes 420 No
On September 30, the Town of Mendon held a special election. The purpose of the election was to seek resident approval to authorize bonding up to $1.35 million for construction of a new library. By approving this resolution, the Town of Mendon qualifies for a major share of the $602,000 allocated to Monroe County through this year's NYS Library Construction Grant. We anticipate an award of approximately a half million dollars.
