This is the first year we meet all of therequirements to apply for a share of the $602,000 NYS Construction Grant allocated for Monroe County libraries. The grant application process requires us to post a bond of up to $1.35 million. A special vote for Town of Mendon was held on September 30. We have an excellent chance of receiving a substantial award, currently estimated at a half million dollars. The Town estimates that, if approved, the tax impact of this bond on Mendon homeowners would be 10 cents per thousand dollars of assessed value (or, for example, an annual cost of $18 for a residence assessed at $180,000).
Why are we applying for this grant?
This grant, plus the bond, will allow us to launch the library project.
Our goal is to be fiscally prudent by building a library that fulfills the Mission Statement of the Library Project Steering Committee.
We are aggressively pursuing private and other public resources to fund the new library. A final building design, with public input, will be started when the grant is awarded, capital campaign goals are set, and other funding sources are finalized.
